the 3rd Project Steering Committee Meeting, CEDEP II, Marine Fishery Component



Phnom Penh, 10 May 2016 – Marine Fishery component of Cambodia Export Diversification and Expansion Program II held its third project steering committee meeting at Sunway Hotel. The meeting was honourably co-chaired by Lok Chomteav Tekreth Kamrang, Secretary of State of Ministry of Commerce (MoC), Mr. ING Try, Deputy Director General of Fisheries Administration and representative of H.E ENG Cheasan and Mr. Aymeric ROUSSEL, Attaché, European Union. The meeting was attended by steering committee members, project core team, and representative of fishery cantonment of target provinces. It aimed to review the progress of the project and to seek endorsement of the committees on Export Manual.



In her opening remark, Lok Chomteav Tekreth Kamrang expressed her acknowledgement and appreciation to the donor, Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF), as well as UNIDO, main implementing agency, and its government counterpart. Lok Chomteav also urged stronger collaboration between MIE and the implementing agencies and its counterpart.



Given that fishery product export plays crucial role in economic development, Lok Chomteav Kamrang stressed that “CEDEP II (Marine Fishery) should pay close attention to the food safety in this sector. The quality of the fishery product should be complied with the requirements of Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS).”



Thus, timely intervention between the MoC and development partners should be of priorities while code of practice which is planned to develop should be well-practised by the fish and fishery processors and exports.



Mr. Chan Sitha, Chief of Eche Ngov Heng Food Production, expressed his sincere thanks to the marine fishery project, UNIDO and MoC for their technical and financial assistance in getting Hazard and Critical Control Point (HACCP).



“With your support, we believe to be able to expand the business, find international market and create more job for local people,” said Mr. Sitha.



Overall, the meeting was fruitful. Export Manual, a guide for exporters-to-be, was endorsed. However, further cross check of technical part and translation of the manual is needed. The meeting also endorsed next 6-month work plan as well as reallocation of fund to support pilot company in implementing food safety system (HACCP).



About CEDEP II: Marine Fishery Marine Fishery is a program funded by Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) and implemented jointly by UNIDO and Fisheries Administration (FiA) and Ministry of Commerce (MoC) to improve the competiveness of Cambodia’s fish and fishery products for better market access thereby contributing to national economy.
