Senior Officials' Meeting of the 6th JTC Between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand
Phnom Penh, Monday, 13 March 2017: The Senior Officials’ Meeting of the 6th Cambodia-Thailand Joint Trade Committee (JTC) was held in Phnom Penh on 13 March 2017. The meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Sok Sopheak, Under Secretary of State, Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia and Mr. Boonyarit Kalayanamit, Director General of Trade Negotiations, Ministry of Commerce of Thailand in order to reach trade target.
During the meeting, the two sides had intensive and exchange of views on how to reach the trade target agreed by the two Prime Ministers to boost bilateral trade volume to 15 billion dollars by 2020. The two sides have explored possible areas of cooperation, including the Growth Strategy of Border Provinces’ Economic Cooperation, Cooperation on Trade of Agricultural Products, Trade Facilitation, Cooperation on Trade and Investment, Cooperation on Connectivity, Agreement of the Avoidance of Double Taxation, etc. Both sides agreed to work together to facilitate bilateral trade and to resolve outstanding issues, in particular, the export of agricultural products, the goods in transit, the expansion of traffic rights.
In addition, the meeting agreed to establish the Joint Committee on Border Trade to solve Trade-Related issues.
Both sides reiterated their commitment towards strengthening mutually beneficial relationship especially in the field of promoting two-ways trade, particularly to promote border trade which has significantly contributed to the total trade between the two countries, connectivity, agriculture, and entrepreneurial development.
Both sides will report the meeting’s result to the Ministerial Meeting of the 6th JTC which will be held on 14 March 2017.
