What are the tasks carried out by Department of the Americas

The Department of the Americas, functioning as the secretariat to the General Directorate of International Trade, Ministry of Commerce, is focused on and concerned with relationships with the American continent and subject to the following tasks:


  • Conduct bilateral economic and trade cooperation with all countries in the American continent;

  • Research and establish strategic policies and action plans for bilateral economic and trade cooperation with all countries in the American continent;

  • Cooperate with relevant entities and institutions to conduct market access negotiation; coordinate and promote trade with countries in the American continent;

  • Execute all relevant policies and missions of the ministry in managing international trade with countries in the American continent;  

  • Coordinate with relevant entities and institution to settle tariff and non-tariff barrier issues leading to better trade facilitation with countries in the American continent;

  • Provide inputs on the draft of trade-related legislations, regulations, procedures and trade agreements between Cambodia and countries in the American continent;

  • Facilitate and promote the implementation of agreements, memorandum of understanding in the framework of bilateral cooperation with countries in the American continent;

  • Cooperate with relevant entities and institutions to prepare training and capacity building plans; organize meetings, workshops and forums to disseminate the results of market access trade negotiation for goods, services and other agreements to government officials, students, and private sector;

  • Research and compile trade information, statistics and economic data of countries in the American continent;

  • Coordinate and cooperate with relevant organizations, associations and chamber of commerce in countries in the American continent; and

  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the management.
